Only in an ideal world where all the Lake Wobegon kids go to college and ads
are bought by sophisticated media buyers for upscale brands.
Unfortunately, boat loads of ads are bought for bulk/volume/reach/etc. And,
still, the prevailing best practice here (hi, Andrew :-) is page-views.
As Davidson correctly points out in his article, as a company owner your job
is to keep them up (really, do anything to jack them up) in order to get
acquired by someone like News Corp at a higher valuation. Best practice of
yesteryear: Crazy Eddy ads worked!
> MySpace's "success" is 99% luck and timing and 1% design.
Well, nearly half billion dollar says, according to VC best practices,
MySpace has been a great success. It had many competitors so it can't be
luck. Their timing has been spectacular as they sold at the height of Web
2.0. Their design must be at least sufficiently attractive for it to have 60
million users.
So, there, we can all learn from our favorite site and junk this Ajax stuff
before it sucks the life out of our revenue.
