Highlights

• Patent Complexity index (PatCI) is introduced.

• Patent complexity for 45 countries for 2000–2014 is estimated.

• Interaction between Economic Complexity and Patent Complexity generates
Triple Helix Complexity Index (THCI).

• A new method of measuring complexity is proposed.

• Complexity of an economy during the period 2000–2014 for the 45 countries
