[Sigmet-officers] Paper cntest winners

On the basis of the reviewer scores, Bei Wen is the winner of the paper contest, Benjamin Lutkoski the runners-up and Hsia-Ching Chang commended.  On May 2 when I notified them of their classification, I informed them that they had won a prize and I would let them know of the prize in due course.  
 
Cassidy and Mike Thelwall both reviewed Benjamin and Hsia-Ching’s submissions and on Thursday when I had lunch with them I discussed the relative merits of both papers.  Cassidy secured $1,000 in prize money and at that meeting Cassidy and I decided how to allocate the prize money and decided to award one year’s student membership to Bei, Benjamin and Hsia-Ching (total cost $147), and prize money of $500 to Bei, $250 to Benjamin and $100 to Hsia-Ching.  I plan to notify the contestants of their prizes within the next two days, so if anyone is not happy with this allocation please email me.   I also plan to offer Bei and Benjamin the opportunity to write a short biographical piece for our newsletter.
