I'm looking for an energetic User Experience designer to join the
Product Design team at The Associated Press.  The ideal candidate will
have great IA skills, a love for solving puzzles, a creative streak, and
a good sense of humor.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for information architecture and
interaction design for AP's new multimedia news and information products
and services. 

The Sr. User Experience Designer will develop the user experience for
high-profile products and services for the global newspaper, broadcast
and commercial online markets. You will take into account market
analysis, customer feedback, usability, and your expertise to create
effective, intuitive user interfaces that meet business needs, reduce
time to market, and increase user productivity. You will work on various
inter-departmental project teams and develop Web sites and applications,
wireless applications and products and services for other delivery
platforms.

Specifically, the Sr. User Experience Designer will:
--Utilize user-centered design methodologies (e.g., contextual inquiry,
field surveys, focus groups) to understand users and their goals, and
define usability requirements for a product.
--Utilize requirements, use cases, and user-centered analysis to design
the structure, interface, and interactions of products that are highly
usable and appealing.
--Develop conceptual diagrams, site maps, interaction models, and
wireframes.
--Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications. 
--Conduct heuristic reviews and usability testing to identify key user
problems and associated solutions. 
--Mentor other user experience designers.
--Contribute to the Product Design group's knowledge base of
user-centered design and research methodologies.

Requirements:

--At least 5 years of experience as an information architect,
interaction designer, or experience designer (or similar role). 
--Bachelor's degree or higher in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or
a related field.
--Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
--Demonstrated ability to work on collaborative teams.
--Proficiency in a variety of tools including Microsoft Visio, Adobe
Photoshop, Image Ready, and Illustrator.
--Familiarity with technical issues around web development and ability
to work constructively with development teams.
--Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and
design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles, issues, and
techniques.
--Experience leading user-research and usability testing.
--Demonstrated ability to produce user-centered design solutions as
evidenced by a portfolio or samples of work. 

Preferred Skills/Experience:

--Ability to code user interfaces in HTML, JavaScript, DHTML and CSS.
--Experience designing news and/or information interfaces.
--Ability to develop the "look and feel" expressed as design comps and
style guides for digital products.
