I absolutely agree with you regarding the iPhone, but (branding  
novice that I am), I have to ask:

	Is strong branding _necessarily_ omnicultural?
	Does a world-class brand _require_ One True Look?

If the answer to these questions is Yes, then the Asia-specific  
redesigns are of course a botched job. If the answer shades off to No  
or even It Depends, then we have to dig deeper into the audience  
expectations.

Personally, I think the Asian redesign is poorly executed, even  
taking Asian website design motifs into account. On the other hand, I  
also question the sanity of anyone who willingly eats snails or fish  
eggs, so I probably should NOT depend on my own preferences in this  
matter.
