"Need." That's the crux of the matter for me. I assumed Google had the
'confidence' to stick to its guns. I see Google's UX proposition being
somewhat transformative: focusing on outcomes and hiding complexity.
Historically, it's been a lesson to the industry. To see them deviate so
superficially is somewhat jarring to me. Somehow, I don't see the iPhone
growing buttons, blinking lights and all manner of clutter when sold in
Asia, for example.

Cultural accommodation is one thing, raping your own branding proposition is
another, I suppose.
