I'm in the middle of designing something so I can look this up right now,
but Apple has also patented removable MECHANICAL layers that work in sync
with and on top of multi-touch screens for domain-specific input. Like an
equalizer with physical knobs for an audio app, etc.

This is going to get very exciting for dumb and rich people with cold hands
and fingernails.
