[Sigia-l] Usability of scrolling news headlines?

I concur, but would also like to add, that when we do UT, most of our
users never see things in the right navigation area, does mean we should
do away with the right nav? Im not a big proponent of scrolling text and
am not defending the use, but how many of us, would if thrown infront of
a site or software would actually "see" everything? Im a pretty big
users of software and the web and don't notice everything. I would be
cautious about removing an element from a page just because a user says
they don't see it, in that case we would have pretty empty pages.
For some reason, in UT, I find that even a user who uses the web all the
time automatically become a "stupid" user.
I think it is inherent to us as human in our busy days and life of many
distractions to notice very little around us. I would bet that on a
day-to-day basis, most of us notice very little details that surround us
and because most of us skim and gloss over most of what we see, why
would we decide to not use something that works?
I like variations as long as what is being designed and used is smart.
Henry Ford once said "they can have any color they want as long as it is
black". Why would we use this mentality while designing and building
websites.

hi Hanan
I've had the opportunity to do some testing with users over the past ten
years or so on a number of different sites that indicates that a
significant proportion of users don't even see scrolling headlines or
tickers, and very few gain any real value from them.
I've seen this in a range of types of websites from ISPs (re: outages
etc), news sites, and transport information sites.
Based on my observations, it is pretty unlikely that I would use this
device in anything I was designing, or recommend it.
hope that's helpful,
Leisa
