I'm DEFINITELY not saying that engineers can't be designers.
Some engineers have made EXCELLENT designers (and visa versa). Usually
by either going back for formal training or working really hard at
doing self-education.
I am saying that professions have cultures due to their training that
point them in the direction of specific processes and methods, and
even ways of looking at the world.
A great example of this is the difference between nurses and doctors.
A nurse can through enough education legally do everything short of
surgery by becoming what is known as a Nurse Practitioner. But an NP
has a VERY different type of practice from a Doctor. Doctors are about
the disease. Nurses are about the human being. Doctors focus on their
ability to separate themselves from their patient, while nurses value
their connection to their patient. Now are there doctors who break
this rule. OF COURSE! But still doesn't mean the rule doesn't exist.
To say that these differences and boundaries don't exist seems
slightly avoiding to me.
