Well, speaking of Google for instance, Froogle, Orkut, Google News, Google
Groups, etc created a lot of buzz among the techno-cognoscenti/early
adopters but all fizzled out in short order.

There are definite dangers to designing products for key early adopters
since their adoption don't always lead to sustainable sales into the fatter
part of the bell curve where profits ultimately reside.
