A few years ago I was working to reorganize an intranet for a Fortune 500
company. Needless to say, they had many different internal audiences who
often had conflicting needs. I used both open and closed card sorting to
uncover just what information was valuable to which audience and how they
structured their world. The card sorting led us to an elegant design that
provided structures that were actually useful to our multifaceted user
base. I could not have reached that particular solution without a tool
like card sorting.
Cheers,
David
