Absolutely. The application itself was interview based so we asked
introduction questions to determine which parts of the form had to be
displayed / could be skipped. For new users especially, this was the
preferred way of navigating the form and completing the task at hand.
This navigation style actually offered a special problem because when users
wanted to go to a page which hadn't been 'activated' yet by an introduction
question, we had to lead them to the page with this question on it
(automatically activating it was not an option, because you'd be filling in
the form for the user - a big no-no).
Also, there was the scenario of users returning to their form and/or making
amendments. The site map offered the possibility of making a quick dive to
the page where they needed to be.
The need for this kind of site map came from the helpdesk. Users had been
calling asking for it.
