Ah. Point taken.  I should decouple the two points i was making.  I
don't think pointless nomenclature is a characteristic unique to
academia.  And seperately, there are meaningful titles and degrees,
and i don't think the hallmarks of such accomplishments should be
denied to those who work for them (that said, there are indicators
beyond simply having PhD or M.S. after ones name which are necessary
to indicate that you have received a meaningful education).
