[Sigia-l] education: being an IA

Hello -

I am very new to this list and I am looking for some answers to questions. I
am currently working as a New Media Designer/SEO and I am looking to go back
to school. I'd like to move into an IA/Usability career at some point. I'm
looking into the HCI (Human Computer Interaction) at UC-San Diego. Is it
necessary to get a degree in order to break into IA or am I going about this
wrong? Do you need to be certified to gain a position as an IA?
