1. No. The atmosphere here does not encourage me to participate.
2. No. This list belongs to an organization that sponsors one of the
greatest professional conferences yet the list does not even begin to
mirror that greatness.
3. No. Trolls kill threads thus discouraging new threads from forming.
The only answer to a troll is the presence of a moderator.
4. No. This community has shown that it can generate great ideas through
its coming together at the IA Summit. Here on this list its just a shadow
of its true self.
5. No. The true character of this community comes to the fore at the IA
Summit. That conference has done more for my professional development
than any course work or study. The IA Summit is one of the most
professional and courteous conferences I have ever attended. It is those
two qualities combined with the free exchange of ideas that make the
Summit so special and it is the lack of those characteristic that makes
this list nearly worthless by comparison.

Cheers,

Dave

Is our collective knowledge enriched by an environment in which new
contributors are discouraged from participating by the prospect of
being subjected to vitriol and ridicule?

Does it serve the profession to have its premier forum function as a
junior high debate club where every discussion is framed as an argument
with winners and losers, and he who has the last word wins?

Does an individual's "right to participate" trump the community's right
not to have meaningful discussion stifled by knee-jerk antagonism and
unrelenting bickering?

Are we made stronger by our willingness to look the other way while a
simple bully runs roughshod over one discussion after another?

Does it reflect our values to have a community that shows so little
regard for civility and mutual respect?
