I agree. Moderation is a form of censorship. It also puts Richard in an
untenable position of deciding what's kosher and what's not. Attacking
someone by name should not be tolerated, but criticizing ideas expressed by
that person should not be curtailed. How else do we get to learn, if we
don't get exposed to notions unfamiliar to us or opposite to our own?

In nature, antiseptic enclaves are very rare. Online, interesting
communities are hardly built around moderated/censored exchanges.

This list has seen far worse exchanges in the past and somehow seems to have
survived. I'm not entirely sure what the current emergency is about that
requires such a drastic measure that could potentially sap the vibrancy of
the list and pave way for its demise.

If anyone needs help in setting up email filters to avoid certain people's
posts, let us know.
