<<I know we've had the IA deliverables discussion here, as well;
shouldn't
there be more of a direct connection between the two in the current
discussion? >>

My answer to you is No. As I said earlier in this thread, we do not
create wireframes and flowcharts and card sorts ... We create software
and web sites, so it is the technology of the final product that is most
important, not our deliverables. I think it was Livabe who said that he
still does pencil sketches for his deliverables. I can see that being
just fine. This however says nothing about the product he is designing
and what technologies that is made up of and what his understanding of
those technologies are.

The original question was what technologies should an IA know ...
"should" ... I would still insist that anyone working in the web should:

1. Know HTML backwards and forwards + CSS + be able to do basic
JavaScript and understand the DOM (and know what DOM is w/o being told).

2. Have an online bank acct, do all their travel & book purchases online
regularly, and read a newspaper online as well. (and have a heuristic
opinion of it)

These are questions that I will ask as an interviewer b/c if you ain't
using it, I don't want you designing it for me.

Lets remember the market is saturated these days and if you can't
distinguish yourself, you will be lost in the crowd.
