Regarding opening Search Results in a new window...

There is a difference between the way Yahoo and Google (or even
altavista) offer the ability to view a search result in a new window.
Google's version is modal. You either open items in a new window or you
don't. I hate it. In Yahoo's version you can choose whether or not to
open an item in a new window. I love it, because it gives me the
choice. Often when I'm searching I open 10 or so results (holding down
the command key) then normal click the last one. Don't ask why, but it
works for me.

I also like the fact that they've made an attempt to visually
communicate "open in a new window"...their little icon may become the
standard, you never know...I also like the fact that results are
numbered (did google's used to be?)

The only minor gripe is that the new window functionality breaks the
tabbed browsing feature that my browser has.

My only other minor gripe is that paging results (for me) returns "This
document contains no data". See if it fails for you.

Of the many gripes I have, I searched for "information architecture" in
the news section, all I was presented with tens of articles I could
buy. They had little dollar signs (in their eyes)

Now as soon as search engine starts this sort of back-scratchy fiscal
nonsense I'm off.

That's it, I've gone from love to hate in 3 easy gripes, let's all get
back to worrying if google are getting a shade too powerful for their
own good and watching out for the next google killer.
