I have to respond with an equally resounding "Absolutely Not" as Ziya has.
Just to put it simply the use of the phrase pre-datest he web, therefore it
can't be intrinsicly tied to the web.
Christina, in a way I'm surprised by your question. It just seems off at
this point in Web history to think of the web as anything but enabling
software. The Web is just another kind of software. it has its own history,
but that is because of market trends and constituency influences. Now though
we know that it was always and will always just be a software platform.
If someone wants to argue that it is a publishing medium, I would say that
software is a publishing medium, not the Web and that the Web is a software
platform like e-paper, flash, director, knowledge bases, dms, cms, etc. Of
course this a weak line of discussion. but so long as navigation is an
issue, IA is different from information design.
