There is a lot of visible ignoring of the user going on here ~ Why? --
Because that is *how* architecture (the 'set-up') continues to do it.
This is the 'way,' the 'path' *you* (as user) have been endorsing. You
(as user) will have to *deal with* these 'organizing/controlling' people
in order to get past/through.

So to help, for instance, -- don't run with that crowd! Don't 'put up
with' what you know is bad for you and others (be good). These
architects are too much concerned with 'deliverable' (the
final-bottom-line) and outright dismiss actual *use* which would benefit
all of us.

It is the unavailability for questioning (hiding in darkness) and the
taken-for-granted context (fixed architecture), which preserves the
status quo.

You might be able to ask Lou Rosenfeld (an IA leader) about these
things, but he rarely, if ever, contributes to SIGIA-L (this
*public/open* list). Maybe, if you tread-lightly and ask, he will come
out of hiding?

I don't know what impression Information Architecture, as a discipline,
has given you to expect any 'attention' to the user from it. IAs appear
only to be interested in "The Polar Bear Book" and concepts like
"Findability" -- being fixed on the absolute end, ignoring the means --
i.e. only the bottom-line counts ($$$), not *how* one arrives (the
experience).

It is unlikely bean-counters will show sympathy with your experience
(the user) beyond producing a deliverable (an end) to pass-off as
representative of your first-hand experience. IAs like everything to be
3rd-hand, and simply won't *deal with,* in genuine, in order to get
through. Everything must be in order/categorical/indexed/blogged --
that is it is *bent* and skewed into a pre-arranged (circumscribed^)
deliverable (fixed analysis). IMHO.

IAs love 'facets,' for instance, because it *removes* the individuality
from an object (contrary), in favor of a pre-arranged-'scheme' (bent)
they know how to control.

*Use does not operate* architecture in IA -- the discipline proceeds by
the relay of vain transcriptions of representational content (biased +
3rd-hand). It is all filter and control to boil-down-to (reduce to) the
IA's 'golden' vision.

If you don't like this 'Police State' Dave, you better tread very, very
carefully.
