[Sigia-l] certifications

Federal gov't jobs (I work for a consulting company) tend to ask this
question a lot. Clients that have been burned badly before have also asked
me this question.

I don't MIND getting certified, but I don't want to try and go for a MCSD
when I am not a developer, I would rather it be relevent.

Certifications do?

Are you able to provide a reference? If so, shouldn't that take care of it?

I know this is an age old issue, but there's no getting around it. A cert is
just like the book list. There's no guarantee that you actually read the
books and, more importantly, understood them. Or that they will help you do
what is needed to be done. If the client/employer needs a cert to have
confidence in you, you need to wonder. Wonder about their ability to qualify
applicants, wonder about the mindset of the workplace, wonder about the
competence of the managers and, ultimately, wonder about the potential value
of the job to your career/life.
