I have tried this approach using Microsoft Index server, I even added the
acrobat plug-in... The problem is that when I look for that one document
about information architecture it returns 400 documents... Since the
documents have not been categorized or tagged the index server will not
show me context or options how to further refine the found set of
results...leaving me again with too much information.

I wish vendors like Autonomy or Semio would sell scaled down and affordable
versions of their products but I think this will take a couple of more
years. There doesn't seem to be any home use or freeware/open source
alternatives available...

Actually, I have just been playing around with a product called "Logic"
(http://www.coredge.com) which will index your documents and allows you to
search the index for a term and it will display you parts of multiple
documents where the chooses term appears. Same problem again though, too
many terms and no ability to control the terms I am interested in.

Greetings,

Mark
