Ok, I know this list is a predominantly American thing and us
Europeans are just lurking, but it seems that the VS is the 'de facto' 
center of anything, now that even local topography is being discussed.

Yes, I know, I could just skip these mails but then I couldn't have
made the comment that New York used to be New Amsterdam :-)

Goes to show you that even God cannot predict the mental map of the users of
his creation. But then again, if he wanted Michigan to be the center of
anything, he would have put it in New York.
