Hello John, and all,

I am near Lansing, Michigan, and I certainly feel like this is the
Midwest. But I haven't consulted authorities on that subject in months.

Perhaps there is some magical line that has been drawn . . . a line
that puts Michigan State University in the Midwest but the University
of Michigan in the East.  Private Michigan joke. :-)

For some time, Pittsburgh has been occasionally described as the point
where the "friendly, relaxed" Midwest meets the (oh, I don't know,
maybe they say, "sophisticated, bustling") East coast.

Perhaps we Michigan professionals could take a tip from those Chicago
businesses that describe their location as "Third Coast."
