Dear ASIS&T members:
I am pleased to announce the winners of the three 2010 ASIS&T SIG Awards. Please see the official citations below!
KT Vaughan, SIG Cabinet Director, 2009-2011
SIG Awards, 2010

SIG Member of the Year: Barrie Hayes (SIG DL)

The 2010 SIG Member of the Year is Barrie Hayes, Chair of SIG DL. Barrie continued her excellent service to SIG DL by moving up to the Chair position this year. She brought an enthusiasm for developing and expanding the SIG, as well as a dedication to providing a home for data-oriented practitioners within the Society as a whole, to her work with SIG DL. Barrie has been an exemplary Chair from a governance perspective; she is one of the few to consistently manage SIG business with a keen eye for detail and deadlines. Under Barrie's leadership the SIG held several Skype calls among the SIG leadership and with interested members, developed an excellent post-conference workshop for the 2010 Annual Meeting, and made a concerted effort to grow the SIG through involving both the official members and those who had joined the Facebook and LinkedIn pages. Congratulations to Barrie Hayes, the 2010 SIG Member of the Year.

SIG Publication of the Year: "A Decade of SIG/USE: Celebrating SIG/USE and Information Behavior Research" (SIG USE) - February/March 2010 Bulletin article.

The 2010 SIG Publication of the Year is awarded to the special section of the Feb/March 2010 special section of the ASIS&T Bulletin, titled "A Decade of SIG/USE: Celebrating SIG/USE and Information Behavior Research." Edited by Crystal Fulton and containing five articles by nine eminent members of the SIG, this special section demonstrates the breadth and depth of the history, subjects, and activity of the SIG and the field of information behavior research. It will serve to introduce researchers, students, and practitioners to both the field and the SIG. For their excellent work, we are pleased to recognize SIG USE, and particularly Crystal Fulton, Editor, as the SIG Publication of the Year winner for 2010.

SIG of the Year: SIG Information Seeking and Use (SIG USE)

The 2010 SIG of the Year is SIG Information Seeking and Use (SIG USE). SIG USE celebrated their tenth anniversary in 2009 with a special workshop and reception, publication, a promotional poster, conference "swag", and multiple contacts with their members both through traditional publications and online in a variety of web 2.0 platforms, and in Second Life. One of the jury members said it best, "This SIG leveraged the opportunity offered by their 10th anniversary year to aid in recruitment and retention of members, to publicize the SIG, to celebrate its members, and to promote awareness of its activities... Their summary of their annual activities sparkles with energy and enthusiasm, and ASIST is fortunate to have SIG-USE as one of its constituent bodies." Congratulations to SIG USE, and particularly to Soo Young Rieh, Chair, and all the other officers of SIG USE, for being this year's ASIS&T SIG of the Year.
