[Asis-l] Research Director search: Data curation for the social sciences

In a joint appointment procedure, GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences - and the University of Cologne announce that the position of the

Research Director

of the Department "Data Archive for the Social Sciences"

is to be filled immediately for a term of five years. This person will simultaneously hold the additional position of

University Professor (W3) for

Empirical Social Research

at the Faculty of Management, Economics at the University of Cologne (http://www.wiso.uni-koeln.de/) for the same term. A reappointment as research director and the conversion to continuing employment of the professorship is possible. The two parties will come to a mutual agreement as to the arrangement of the position following the Jülicher Modell with respect to employment law. The requirements for an appointment to a professorship at the University of Cologne are governed by the provisions of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia.

GESIS (www.gesis.org) conducts basic research in the social sciences that is both nationally and internationally significant. The core functions of the Department "Data Archive for the Social Sciences" are providing data services as well as research and development related to these services. The department's main focuses are national and international comparative studies such as ALLBUS, GLES, EVS and ISSP as well as the involvement in international networks like CESSDA, ICPSR and IFDO.

Applicants should be social scientists or political scientists who are internationally recognized for their quantitative, empirical social research. They should have management skills and have a proven track record of being able to secure external funding from national and international funding agencies. The successful candidate is expected to be in charge of the department, to conduct own methodological or substantive research based on existing data holdings, to cooperate with the Institute's Management of GESIS and to represent GESIS in national and international committees. At the university a teaching commitment of two contact hours per week is required for the duration of the contract.

GESIS and the University of Cologne aim to increase the number of women in leadership positions and therefore welcome applications from qualified female candidates.

This appointment complies with the guidelines set by the German Disabilities Act and the provisions of the German Act on Part-Time Work and Fixed-Term Employment Relationships. GESIS has been certified by the "Family and Career Audit" since 2010.
