CALL FOR PAPERS

This special track aims to bring together researchers and practitioners, who
are dealing with data and information quality issues in healthcare
management, providing the opportunity to promote, present, stimulate and
facilitate the discussion of ongoing work in this area (theories, practices,
strategies, modeling, tools, latest results). This special track can also
provide a forum to present latest research results, new technology
developments, new strategies, and new applications in this area of
information quality (IQ) in healthcare.

JOURNAL SPECIAL ISSUE

All papers accepted to this track will be considered for invitation to
extend their work for a Special Issue in the International Journal of
Information Quality.

PAPER FORMAT AND SELECTION

Papers should be submitted electronically using EasyChair online submission
system, at
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cbms2013.

Prospective authors for this track should choose the "Data and Information
Quality in Healthcare Management" special track, when submitting a paper.

Please refer to the general webpage of CBMS 2013 for submission guidelines
at http://cbms2013.med.up.pt/.

Selected papers will be peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers for
eligibility and quality. Special track papers should report on significant
unpublished work, and are required to meet the same standards of the general
track. 


Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings, edited and
published by IEEE Press. At least one co-author of an accepted track paper
should be present at CBMS 2013.

RATIONALE

It is well known that almost all databases suffer from quality problems
(e.g.: missing values; existence of synonyms; uniqueness violations;
duplicate records) and medical databases are no exception. Managing
information with an adequate level of quality is vital to effective
healthcare management processes, since the financial survival of healthcare
organizations largely depends on the successfully running of such processes.
Data regarding effectiveness of treatments, accuracy of diagnosis and
practices of health care providers is crucial for organizations to do their
best when they try to maintain and improve health care delivery. Over the
past years, the number of medical registries has greatly increased and their
value strongly depends on the quality of data contained in the registry.
With the development of Information and Communication Technologies, medical
databases are expected to be more reliable. Issues regarding information
quality are now even more relevant as the utilization of these databases
increase in magnitude and importance. Obtaining, maintaining and
transforming data with the most suitable levels of quality is not an easy
goal.
This special track aims to bring together researchers and practitioners, who
are dealing with data and information quality issues in healthcare
management, providing the opportunity to promote, present, stimulate and
facilitate the discussion of ongoing work in this area.
