The School of Information Sciences (http://www.sis.pitt.edu) at the
University of Pittsburgh is seeking candidates for two faculty positions
in the Department of Library and Information Science, to start no later
than Fall Term 2006.

SIS is a charter member of the i-Schools Consortium with a one hundred
four year history of pioneering the Information professions. Over the
past 5 years, SIS has recruited eight new faculty with expertise in
Information Visualization, Sociology of Knowledge, Digital Libraries,
Multimedia Archives, Information Security and Software Engineering. The
School's intellectual foundation is grounded in the integrated study of
people, information, and technology. This offers rich opportunities for
interdisciplinary research, instruction, and service at the current
frontier of the information sciences. The School emphasizes the synthesis
of people, information and technology, and offers opportunities for
research, instruction, and services spanning the needs of an
information-intensive and increasingly-digital society.

The Department seeks candidates whose research and teaching interests span
the digital environments of contemporary libraries and information
services. Collaboration with SIS faculty in other areas of expertise is
encouraged. Experience with distance education is an asset. Successful
candidates are effective, proactive educators pursuing a visionary
research agenda. They will play a key role in charting the School's
future course as a leading i-School.

SIS especially invites applicants who have an innovative approach to these
core areas:

 	Cataloging and classification
 	Children and youth services
 	Collections management
 	Information behavior
 	Information retrieval and access
 	Leadership and management
