Subject: [Asis-l] Question for Candidates
===8<==============Original message text===============
Thank you Brian.
The fact is that many ASIS&T members are also members of a variety of
other information societies. 19% of respondents to the recent members'
survey are members of SLA.
For most of us "information science and technology" is a core area but
we are active in a variety of its specialty aspects.
It should be possible to harness the forces that currently push toward
dispersion into the opposite direction. Not by any imposition but by
simply becoming a fair and pro-active player among many others. By
using information technology to facilitate the necessary interaction.
And by taking better advantage of the many personal linkages that
constitute our collective social and intellectual capital.
When I hear statements like "There might be a relationship to
explore between information literacy, media literacy, computer
literacy, video literacy and plain literacy" I feel reductionism has
driven us all nuts.
Michel
