[Sigia-l] A different kind of shopping experience

have you seen http://like.com yet?

It's a shopping site for shoes, jewellery, handbags and uses a visual
'likeness' search + celebrity approach to search. (brought to you by
Riya Inc who were originally doing facial recognition for photo
uploads)

lots of people are appalled by the celebrity thing (but I suspect
there is a silent majority who would love it... otherwise that whole
genre of magazines wouldn't exist!), and there does seem to be a
gender split between those who think that it's a brilliant idea and
those who think it's a waste of time!

>From the annecdotal evidence I've gathered to date, if you are someone
who loves to shoe shop then you're likely to love the visual search
options that include
- colour matching (I want a boot like that but in red), and
- feature matching, where you can pick out an aspect of the image (eg.
the style of the heel) and use that to search for more products that
have similar visual attributes.

They also use facets such as price, brand, toe style, heel style,
site, function, etc to help you narrow your search.

I have to say, I'm quite taken by it but, I should qualify that by
saying that I'm well and truly in the shoe buying target audience :)

(I've raved about this some more here: http://tinyurl.com/yl3hka)
