I'm looking for information regarding the use of Opt-in controls used on e-commerce sites. Typically users making purchases are asked if they want to op-in for marketing material, e-mails, newsletters etc.
Does anyone know if there is data that suggests how to improve take-rate.
For example:
 - display as close as possible to the final check-out button
 - display in proximity to billing info
 - display in proximity to some other customer info capture
I have some of my own ideas but I'm looking to validate/invalidate them before I go to a product owner. Granted this is one of those evil uses of the Internet, but I consider the fact that a product owner is even concerned with my opinion a small victory.
I'll let this simmer for a few days. Thanks to anyone who can point the way.
