A few years ago when I was an information studies grad
student, I worked at a research institute under an
e-metrics contract to the Association of Research
Libraries (ARL). ARL has been looking at e-metrics,
particularly for university libraries, for a number of
years. I thought it might be interesting to some of
you given the resent postings. The most recent work

My particular focus was on outcome measures-- measures
that could be tied to the success of the university as
a whole to quantify the value of the library's
