[Sigia-l] Making the case for unique ID numbers

Hi, folks,

I'm working on content and IA for a client, and am finding that (to my
horror), no, even with 80,000+ pg, their current site contents have no unique ID
numbers (1.A.3.d., etc). They're sort of swimming around in an elderly
CMS space. All of the current content needs to be reorg'd, edited, and
slotted into the new IA, so you can see the dilemma!

I need to make the case--they're excellent people to work with, but
they're in the energy industry, and every single move has to be
scrutinized and backed up with data.

I've been poking around online looking for references, but would really
appreciate ay resources you could point me to, to back up what seems, to
me, to be a non-issue.

Many thanks--I'll pull them all together, and post a SUMMARY that we can
all hang on to, once all the responses are in.

Cheers,

Merry
