Sort of.

For UE, the numbers themselves aren't important, the next step is: what is
the user expected to do with them? In other words, what I want to know is
what my effort will be to get to what I want. Am I going to wade through 1,
5, or 50 pages? Will I suffer page refreshes? Do I have to search
node-by-node?

What if the nodes are combined into compound searches, so that I can select
on multiple criteria at once? What if the result-sets are generated in
real-time so I can play with them interactively? Etc. In such cases node
numbers don't show much useful data. So it really depends on how the system
is designed.
