or "using research to justify strategy the Machiavelli way"

    "Microsoft drops pop-up ads"
    http://media.guardian.co.uk/newmedia/story/0,7496,1150214,00.html

"Microsoft announced it would remove pop-ups from its US sites last year and
the extension of the policy worldwide follows a report by Forrester
Research, which found that 64% of US internet users found pop-up ads
irritating and 28% avoided sites that allowed advertisers to use them."

I heard through the grapevine that the next IE version will have built in
pop-up blocking features (can anyone confirm?) Interesting strategy, I mean,
coincidence; that pop-ups are annoying we've known for a while, but to use
that information to justify sending advertisers away is a different thing
altogether... thoughts?
