I found the atomz.com search engine very useful in checking broken
links (if your CMS doesn't include this.)
The beauty of atomz is that it uses HTTP as its engine, so it's very
much a web browser digging through your site. The log file will clearly
indicated broken links.
the downside is that the free version searches only 500 pages; if you
set up multiple accounts and define multiple entry points, it will
probably do what you need. Also not so good at following Javascript
links, which could potentially be problematic.
