Here's a clever solution I used on another site.
Most servers have a feature where you can set up custom error pages for
error-404 not found. Based on the page that it is detected they are going
to, you can program a javascript page that redirects them to the right page.
That way all of the management of the number of pages is in one page/place
(reducing page management issues), and you can get them to the right place.
