Brett - 

I certainly see where you're coming from on that.  I actually come from a sales background and got into web development first as a hobby, then for a career change. Unfortunately it wasn't the best time to make the move - the dotcom bust had already taken hold and lots of more qualified developers had become "downsized" out of a job. So they ended up taking a lot of jobs that more resembled my skillset (at the time), leaving me with less and less opportunities.
So, unless someone is in a market where there are tons of opportunities, it can definitely be difficult - especially for someone with no work experience in the job role. All I can say for Leonard is "Hang in there, man!".
