Two suggestions:
1. Avoid letting the tyrrany of the installed base keep the team from
making worthwhile improvements.
2. If you change the names of things, you might want to include--for a
few weeks at the most--the previous language in the tooltips. For
example: Return to home (Revert to Welcome).
3. Conduct a usability test of the finished design with users of the
current design. The negative transfer problems you discover will
probably suggest their own solutions.
