When you said right to left, did you mean the vertical lines
(i.e. characters are first arranged from top to bottom. When a new
vertical line is needed, it is added to the left of the current
vertical line)?

You can avoid the above problem by laying Chinese text from left to
right - just like you would do with English text. You can even apply
such layout to Chinese poetry.
