Another perspective, and a sneak preview into survey
results. So far, 106 people have responded to the IA
Community Needs Survey. (If you haven't please do so!
It doesn't take any more than 10 minutes. Link below.)

Of those, 81% indicated that creating page layouts is
a day-to-day responsibility. This task is "in the
lead." (A close second, creating sitemaps, at almost
79%.)

Now, creating page layouts is also in the lead for
tasks people like. 65% of respondents enjoy making
page layouts. (Sitemaps is again the close second at
60%.) In contrast, only five respondents say they do
not like making page layouts.

Perhaps we make 'em because we like to...
