Visual Resources Librarian
The NCSU Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position
of Visual Resources Librarian. The Visual Resources Librarian leads and
coordinates services that facilitate the use of visual resources,
including slides, photographs, and digital image collections. Works
closely with faculty and students to determine and meet service and
collection needs. Manages the visual resources collection of the Design
Library, a collection of 80,000 slides, many with corresponding digital
images. Participates in collection management for disciplines such as
art and photography for the general collection. Supervises a half-time
visual resources cataloger; hires and trains student assistants.
Provides reference and research assistance and library instruction.
Participates in departmental and library planning; serves on
library-wide and university committees, task forces, and teams. NCSU
Librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to
developments in the field. Reports to the Head, Design Library.
Qualifications
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree in library or
information science. Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant subject
area. Experience with print, electronic, and visual materials in
architecture, art, or design. Knowledge of applications of current and
emerging technologies as they contribute to meeting the needs of faculty
members, researchers, and students. Familiarity with the management and
use of digital images. Understanding of the educational mission of a
research university and the changing learning environment. Excellent
interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with colleagues,
faculty, and students in a team environment. Ability to communicate
clearly and knowledgeably, both orally and in writing. Evidence of
ability for ongoing professional development and contribution.
Preferred: Relevant professional experience.
Salary and Benefits
The Libraries offers highly competitive salaries in recognition of
applicable education and experience, not less than $44,000 for this
position. Relocation allowance provided. Librarians have non-tenure
track faculty status (without levels of rank). Benefits include: 24
days vacation, 12 days sick leave; State of NC comprehensive major
medical insurance, and state, TIAA/CREF, or other retirement options.
