A couple of notes to all (I didn't know Heting was going to announce so
quickly, but that is not a problem if you can ignore some housekeeping.
First, we are just starting on implementing the electronic submission. What
Heting says is correct, but some changes will be made later this week (or
early next) that will make all clearer. For example, where it now asks for
"Title" it will (when revised) ask for "Nominee." Where it now asks for
"Author" it will ask for "Nominator." Where it now says "Call for Papers,"
it will say "Call for Nominations." Similar changes will also be made
elsewhere
And we very much want ALL submissions electronically. This facilitates
everything and gives us an archive of the reports.
Similarly we are taking as many of the awards as possible to electronic
submission -- and that includes the PRATT SEVERN AWARD. Make sure your
Masters' students know about this.
The award shall consist of round-trip travel expenses and full registration
for the ASIS annual meeting, not to exceed $500, to be paid by Pratt
Institute; a certificate; and possible submission of the paper for
publication in the Journal of the American Society for Information Science
(JASIS).
If runners-up are designated, they will receive letters of "honorable
mention," signed by the ASIS President, but shall not share in the award.
Travel reimbursements will be made 4-6 weeks after receipts are submitted to
HQ.
The purpose of this award is to encourage student research and writing in
the field of information science.
Any student in a Masters degree-granting institution can submit a paper.
Doctoral theses are not eligible.
Papers submitted must fall into the scope of JASIS and must be endorsed by a
faculty sponsor for submission to the contest.
Papers submitted should be original manuscripts (not previously published)
and should not be submitted to other publications or groups while they are
being considered by the Jury.
The Best Student Research Award is sponsored by the Society-at-Large and is
administered the Information Science Education Committee.
Nominations should be in the system by June 15.
In summary, the nominations package should include:
(a) A cover letter, stating
. the author's name, address, and academic affiliation; and
. that the attached paper is being submitted for the Best Student
Research Award;
(b) The paper, carrying no author identification; and
(c) No more than two letters of endorsement from faculty sponsors.

Subject: [Studentchapadv] ASIST Student Chapter-of-the-Year Award - Call for
Nominations
Dear Advisor,
Please remind your ASIST student chapter officers that their annual report,
which can also serve as self-nomination for the Student Chapter-of-the-Year
award, should be submitted to the headquarters by Monday, May 31, 2004
either electronically or by postal mail.
A webpage has been set up at
http://www.softconf.com/asist/StudChapYr04/submit.html for your chapter to
submit your report/nomination electronically. Guidelines and
nomination/report form (aka Criteria & Checklist) are hyperlinked from the
submission page. Please note that since a conference management application
is used to set up this page, some of the wording (e.g., Call for Papers at
http://www.softconf.com/asist/StudChapYr04/) cannot be tailored to
accurately reflect the nature of your submission.
Please also note that 15 points are assigned to the Financial criterion in
the award nomination form due to a hangover from Chapter of Year criteria.
But, we understand that student chapters do not do budgets the same way that
professional chapters do. So your chapter perhaps can present your
fundraising or other similar activities in this section of your submission.
Thank you very much for your help. Look forward to receiving the annual
report from your student chapter.
Sincerely,
Heting Chu
Student Chapter Representativ
