Dear colleagues:
Interested in current research topics and critical questions for
information behavior research on mobility and social networking? Come
to the SIG USE 7th Annual Research Symposium on "Mobility and Social
Networks in Information Behavior" on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 1-6
pm before the ASIS&T Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee,
WI. The Symposium sponsors are Microsoft, Inc., and Information Today.
General registration is now open, but better hurry up. The registration
cap is 40 participants and there are only about 12 spots available to
those attending without position papers.
Symposium highlights:
Keynote presentations by two industry and research leaders in mobile
technologies and social networking:
Dr. Marc Smith, Senior Researcher, Microsoft Research, presentation
title: Mapping social software from the desktop to the mobile device
Dr. Caroline Haythornthwaite, Associate Professor, University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, presentation title: Information sharing
through social networks.
20 thought-provoking position papers were selected for discussion at the
Symposium. Discussion topics include:
- Theories and frameworks guiding information behavior (IB) research in
mobility and social networking
- Online and mobile IB of: children, news readers, students, job
seekers, medical record users, archeologists, tourists, and female
shoppers
- Data collection methodologies for IB research using mobile devices
- Impact of factors such as place, distributed learning, disruptions in
social networks, and Web APIs on IB in social networks.
Registration fee is $90 for ASIS&T members, $105 for non-members. SIG
USE members have $10 discount. The fee includes two refreshments and
priceless opportunity to network with peers who share your interests.
