Job Title: Cyberinfrastructure Coordinator - Information Systems 
Specialist

Description:
WHOI holds one of the world's most extensive collections of
oceanographic data, and we are seeking an outstanding individual to lead
the Institution's efforts to apply advanced data acquisition,
management, analysis and modeling tools to efficiently connect data,
computers, and people with the goal of enabling scientific research. The
WHOI Cyberinfrastructure Coordinator will report to the Director of
Research.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
     * Develop a vision and implementation strategy to strengthen WHOI's
       participation in Ocean Science cyberinfrastructure programs
     * Seek out new opportunities to fund the development of a robust
       cyberinfrastructure capability at WHOI and improve the
       competitiveness of WHOI projects that have
       cyberinfrastructure-intensive requirements
     * Work with existing groups to coordinate on-going
       cyberinfrastructure activities at WHOI, especially those
       associated with ocean observing systems
     * Acquire knowledge of emerging cyberinfrastructure standards and
       tools; disseminate this knowledge to the WHOI technical and
       scientific staff; identify gaps in existing technical skills and
       develop an internal training strategy.
     * Recommend and facilitate the implementation of a common
       infrastructure to enable data transport and interoperability.
     * Assist in the development of data products and analysis tools to
       capitalize on WHOI's extensive data holdings, and manage data
       currently being acquired by the Institution's ships, scientific
       community and the general public
