Subject: [CHMINF-L] NAPS Material - a modest proposal
** Cross-posted to PAMNET**
I think as a service to our profession (and some penance for starting
something and then not assuring its sustainability) that ASIST should be
asked to definitively investigate and establish the status of National
Auxiliary Publication Service content, even if that means hiring a private
information researcher/detective to really track this down.
If the material can be definitively shown to be lost to history, then
perhaps we can mount a campaign towards publishers that cite this service
to insert footnotes into the electronic images where NAPS content is
cited. If the NAPS material can be located in some dark archive, then
surely in this day of open access, repositories, & cheap server space,
ASIST and/or SLA should be able to resurrect this at minimal costs.
Are there any ASIST staff on this list and ASIST members that would be
willing to make this an issue?
