Abstract:
This study explores the academic foundations of hospitality management
research within an emerging country using bibliometric analysis citation
and co-citation analysis. Turkey was chosen as a starting point to
assess existing research within an emerging country framework because of
the large impact of tourism and hospitality (T/H) on the economy and
increasing amount of academic research in the field. A total of 76
hospitality management research articles from 1992 to 2013 were found in
leading international T/H journals indexed by SSCI. Findings showed that
over one-half of the research comes from publications engaging outside
of the T/H field. Patterns emerged between T/H and management, marketing
and psychology fields that indicated evolving maturity in the research.
An intense dependency on supporting journals for substantiation existed
and intra-disciplinary maturity was weak, but growing. Accordingly,
referring to the findings related to the study, the article discusses
limitations of the study and future steps. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All

Abstract:
This article develops and tests a theory to explain the common tendency
to "denigrate heroes," whereby high-status actors are suspected of being
inconsiderate and inauthentic relative to low-status counterparts. This
tendency is argued to reflect two conditions typical of status
attainment processes: (a) assertions of superiority over others and (b)
the presence of incentives to pursue status. The latter is key since
awareness of such incentives breeds suspicions of inauthenticity, which
in turn undermine perceptions of prosocial intentions. This theory is
validated in a series of online experiments, in which categorical status
hierarchies emerge either via deference on a coordinated task or via
competitive interactions. Results show that high-status actors may also
be " celebrated" as authentic and considerate when the observable
incentive structure is such that assertions of superiority appear as
unintended by-products of prosocial action. Implications are drawn
regarding the sources of instability and insecurity in status
hierarchies.

Abstract:
Background
International collaborative research is a mechanism for improving the
development of disease-specific therapies and for improving health at
the population level. However, limited data are available to assess the
trends in research output related to orphan diseases.
Methods and Findings
We used bibliometric mapping and clustering methods to illustrate the
level of fragmentation in myeloma research and the development of
collaborative efforts. Publication data from Thomson Reuters Web of
Science were retrieved for 2005-2009 and followed until 2013. We created
a database of multiple myeloma publications, and we analysed impact and
co-authorship density to identify scientific collaborations,
developments, and international key players over time. The global annual
publication volume for studies on multiple myeloma increased from 1,144
in 2005 to 1,628 in 2009, which represents a 43% increase. This increase
is high compared to the 24% and 14% increases observed for lymphoma and
leukaemia. The major proportion (> 90% of publications) was from the US
and EU over the study period. The output and impact in terms of
citations, identified several successful groups with a large number of
intra-cluster collaborations in the US and EU. The US-based myeloma
clusters clearly stand out as the most productive and highly cited, and
the European Myeloma Network members exhibited a doubling of
collaborative publications from 2005 to 2009, still increasing up to
2013.
Conclusion and Perspective
Multiple myeloma research output has increased substantially in the past
decade. The fragmented European myeloma research activities based on
national or regional groups are progressing, but they require a broad
range of targeted research investments to improve multiple myeloma
health care.

Abstract:
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyse the global scientific
outputs of ontology research, an important emerging discipline that has
huge potential to improve information understanding, organization, and
management.
Design/methodology/approach - This study collected literature published
during 1900-2012 from the Web of Science database. The bibliometric
analysis was performed from authorial, institutional, national,
spatiotemporal, and topical aspects. Basic statistical analysis,
visualization of geographic distribution, co-word analysis, and a new
index were applied to the selected data.
Findings - Characteristics of publication outputs suggested that
ontology research has entered into the soaring stage, along with
increased participation and collaboration. The authors identified the
leading authors, institutions, nations, and articles in ontology
research. Authors were more from North America, Europe, and East Asia.
The USA took the lead, while China grew fastest. Four major categories
of frequently used keywords were identified: applications in Semantic
Web, applications in bioinformatics, philosophy theories, and common
supporting technology. Semantic Web research played a core role, and
gene ontology study was well-developed. The study focus of ontology has
shifted from philosophy to information science.
Originality/value - This is the first study to quantify global research
patterns and trends in ontology, which might provide a potential guide
for the future research. The new index provides an alternative way to
evaluate the multidisciplinary influence of researchers.

Abstract:
For a general function f (n) (n = 1,2,...), defining general Hirsch-type
indices, we can characterize the first increment I-1 (n) = (n + 1) f (n
+ 1) - nf(n) as well as the second increment I-2 (n) = I-1 (n + 1) - I-1
(n + 1). An application is given by presenting mathematical
characterizations of Kosmulski-indices.

Abstract:
In this paper, we present a framework for visual analytics of massive
complex networks. Our framework is based on the tight integration of
network analysis methods with visualization methods to address the
scalability and complexity. We present case studies using various
networks derived from the WoS (Web of Science). More specifically, we
integrated co-citation analysis of Social Network community with 2.5D
visualization methods to provide insight and overview on temporal
dynamics. Furthermore, we derived collaboration networks and citation
networks of Graph Drawing community and visualized using Anchored map

Abstract:
Patent classification systems are applied extensively in innovative
analysis. Existing patent classification schemes are either
technology-dependent or TRIZ-based. The former ones, such as the IPC and
UPC, are normally developed by different patent offices in the world
mainly for the purpose of patentability examination and patent
retrieval, while the latter is for TRIZ users and analysts with no more
than 40 categories. These static classifications are too complex and
general to meet the in-depth patent classification requirements of a
specific technology area or organization. To tackle these drawbacks, in
this paper, we propose an automatic requirement-oriented patent
classification scheme as a complementary method using supervised machine
learning techniques to classify patent dataset into a user-defined
taxonomy. The requirement-oriented patent taxonomy can be
technology-dependent, application-dependent or a mixture of both
tailored to specific business objectives. It is more comprehensible and
adaptable to various patent management requirements. Through a set of
experiments on a collection of 14,414 patents in a case study in the
technology area of system on a chip (SoC), we recommend using the
combination of the metadata and citation information as the document
representation for the new method since it can obtain relatively high
classification accuracy with a dramatically simplified document
preprocessing process.

All

Abstract:

Abstract:
Although existing studies have covered journal impact factor from many
aspects, how to set up a uniform scale model for impact factors of
Chinese and English journals is still a problem to be solved and
receives more attention in recent years: since current methods such as
data classification and statistical classification are too ambiguous,
they tend to turn impact factors of ten-plus journals into one, usually
leading to massive information loss during data conversion, thus they
fail to provide scientific and rational evaluation findings. With
journal impact factor being one of important indices for the quality of
academic papers and academic levels, the adoption of an effective
uniform scale system for Chinese and English journals' impact factors
has become a hot spot both for literature research institutions and
universities. The paper proposes a conversion model of impact factors
based on expert experience and data fusion, which is established by
taking into account of expert views towards academic journals in Chinese
and English within a certain field as well as objective evaluations of
impact factors from the journals.

Abstract:
This study aimed to analyse the quantitative similarities between
traditional citations coverage (Web of Science and Scopus) and citations
taken from the Web (Google Scholar), specifically targeting articles
from 23 Open Access ISI-indexed journals within the field of General and
Internal Medical Science published in 2007. This method enables us to
comprehend the number of citations that exist on the Web and their
efficiency as an important source for Medical Science research
evaluation. More specifically, the correlation tests are used as an
indirect approach to assess the extent of the relationship between
traditional and Web-based citation coverage. It also investigates the
percentage of overlap between conventional and Web citations databases
in the selected journals. The findings show that the Web incorporates
more citation data targeting general and internal medical journal
articles that cannot be traced by traditional citation databases. The
significant association between both conventional citations databases
and Google Scholar found in this study, suggest that both the
traditional and Web-based citation database are possible tools for
measuring identical aspects, however, Web-based citations have the
capability to be used for effective and accurate evaluation.
