Abstract:
Since Atanassov presented the intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) in 1983, a
great amount of extended content has been made by experts in IFS field
and then the citations of a more formal paper, which developed from the
first proposal and was presented in 1986, have been cited over 4000
times in Google Scholar ending November 6, 2014. However, the research
on the development track of this discipline has not caused extensive
attention among scholars in this discipline. Therefore, in this paper,
we plan to determine the development track of this discipline based on
some statistics and network analysis methodologies, as a new attempt.
Note that we only take the citation information on IFSs ending November
6, 2014 into account. Therefore all of the data in this paper have time
restriction. We derive a historical graph about the development course
of IFS and use some basic statistics to identify some influential
journals, authors, etc. Then we analyze a small range of influential
literatures based on the SNA (social network analysis) theory to figure
out the position of several cardinal IFS literatures. As result
suggests, Atanassov [1] is the most influential paper in IFS field. Most
literatures referring to IFS cited this paper and on the basis of it,
increasingly scholars combine other subjects with IFS subject. (C) 2015

Abstract:
We investigate divisions within the citation network in economics using
citation data between 1990 and 2010. We consider all partitions of top
institutions into two equal-sized clusters and pick the one that
minimizes cross-cluster citations. The strongest division is much
stronger than could be expected to be found under idiosyncratic citation
patterns and is consistent with the reputed freshwater/saltwater
division in macroeconomics. The division is stable over time but varies
across the fields of economics. (JEL A11, D85, I23)

Abstract:
Background-Cardiovascular research output and citations of publications
from Africa have historically been low yet may be increasing. However,
data from the continent are limited.
Methods and Results-To evaluate the cardiovascular research output and
citations from 52 African countries between 1999 and 2008, we created a
bibliometric filter to capture cardiovascular research articles
published in the Web of Knowledge based on specialist journals and title
words. Two coauthors with expertise in cardiovascular medicine tested
and refined this filter to achieve >90% precision and recall. We matched
retrieved records with their associated citation reports and calculated
the running 5-year citation count postpublication, including the year of
publication. Publications from Africa were identified by author
addresses. South Africa published 872 cardiovascular research papers,
Egypt 393, Tunisia 264, and Nigeria 192 between 1999 and 2008. The
number of publications increased over the time period for a small number
of countries (range 0.1 to 4.8 more publications per year by fractional
count). Most countries' citations were low (<50), but citations were
greatest for South Africa (7063), Egypt (2557), Tunisia (903), and
Nigeria (540). The same countries had the greatest annual increase in
5-year citation index values: 65 (95% CI: 30, 99) for South Africa, 46
(34, 58) for Egypt, 22 (15, 28) for Tunisia, and 8 (2, 14) for Nigeria.
The burden of cardiovascular disease had a weak and inconsistent
relationship to cardiovascular publications (r(2)=0.07, P=0.05). Greater
gross domestic product was associated with more cardiovascular
publications in 2008 (r(2)=0.53, P<0.0001).
Conclusions-The increases in cardiovascular research outputs from Africa
are concentrated in a few countries. The reasons for regional
differences in research outputs require further investigation,
particularly relative to competing disease burdens. Higher
prioritization of cardiovascular research funding from African countries
is warranted.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to assess progress in the field of anesthesia
monitoring over the past 40 years using scientometric analysis. The
following scientometric indexes were used: popularity indexes (general
and specific), representing the proportion of articles on either a topic
relative to all articles in the field of anesthetics (general popularity
index, GPI) or the subfield of anesthesia monitoring (specific
popularity index, SPI); index of change (IC), representing the degree of
growth in publications on a topic from one period to the next; and index
of expectations (IE), representing the ratio of the number of articles
on a topic in the top 20 journals relative to the number of articles in
all (>5,000) biomedical journals covered by PubMed. Publications on 33
anesthesia-monitoring topics were assessed. Our analysis showed that
over the past 40 years, the rate of rise in the number of articles on
anesthesia monitoring was exponential, with an increase of more than
eleven-fold, from 296 articles over the 5-year period 1974-1978 to 3,394
articles for 2009-2013. This rise profoundly exceeded the rate of rise
of the number of articles on general anesthetics. The difference was
especially evident with the comparison of the related GPIs: stable
growth of the GPI for anesthesia monitoring vs constant decline in the
GPI for general anesthetics. By the 2009-2013 period, among specific
monitoring topics introduced after 1980, the SPI index had a meaningful
magnitude (>= 1.5) in 9 of 24 topics: Bispectral Index (7.8),
Transesophageal Echocardiography (4.2), Electromyography (2.8), Pulse
Oximetry (2.4), Entropy (2.3), Train-of-four (2.3), Capnography (1.9),
Pulse Contour (1.9), and Electrical Nerve Stimulation for neuromuscular
monitoring (1.6). Only one of these topics (Pulse Contour) demonstrated
(in 2009-2013) high values for both IC and IE indexes (76 and 16.9,
respectively), indicating significant recent progress. We suggest that
rapid growth in the field of anesthetic monitoring was one of the most
important developments to compensate for the intrinsically low margins
of safety of anesthetic agents.

Abstract:
Bibliometrics is a research field that analyzes the bibliographic
material quantitatively. It provides efficient methodologies for
classifying the information of a scientific discipline. This paper
presents an overview of the most productive and influential authors and
institutions in finance by using bibliometric indicators. The
information is classified by using several global rankings that consider
a wide range of indicators including number of papers, citations and the
h-index. In general, the results are in accordance with the common
knowledge and confirm the results obtained in previous studies providing
updated information and more general representations. The USA is the
most influential country in finance and the majority of influential
authors and institutions are working there.

Are Scholarly Articles Disproportionately Read in Their Own Country? An Analysis of Mendeley Readers

Abstract:
International collaboration tends to result in more highly cited
research and, partly as a result of this, many research funding schemes
are specifically international in scope. Nevertheless, it is not clear
whether this citation advantage is the result of higher quality research
or due to other factors, such as a larger audience for the publications.
To test whether the apparent advantage of internationally collaborative
research may be due to additional interest in articles from the
countries of the authors, this article assesses the extent to which the
national affiliations of the authors of articles affect the national
affiliations of their Mendeley readers. Based on English-language Web of
Science articles in 10 fields from science, medicine, social science,
and the humanities, the results of statistical models comparing author
and reader affiliations suggest that, in most fields, Mendeley users are
disproportionately readers of articles authored from within their own
country. In addition, there are several cases in which Mendeley users
from certain countries tend to ignore articles from specific other
countries, although it is not clear whether this reflects national
biases or different national specialisms within a field. In conclusion,
research funders should not incentivize international collaboration on
the basis that it is, in general, higher quality because its higher
impact may be primarily due to its larger audience. Moreover, authors
should guard against national biases in their reading to select only the
best and most relevant publications to inform their research.

Abstract:
This study compares the range of disciplines of citing journal articles
to determine how closely related journals assigned to the same Web of
Science research area are. The frequency distribution of disciplines by
citing articles provides a signature for a cited journal that permits it
to be compared with other journals using similarity comparison
techniques. As an initial exploration, citing discipline data for 40
high-impact-factor journals assigned to the information science and
library science category of the Web of Science were compared across 5
time periods. Similarity relationships were determined using
multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis to compare
the outcomes produced by the proposed citing discipline and established
cocitation methods. The maps and clustering outcomes reveal that a
number of journals in allied areas of the information science and
library science category may not be very closely related to each other
or may not be appropriately situated in the category studied. The citing
discipline similarity data resulted in similar outcomes with the
cocitation data but with some notable differences. Because the citing
discipline method relies on a citing perspective different from
cocitations, it may provide a complementary way to compare journal
similarity that is less labor intensive than cocitation analysis.

Abstract:
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to develop a list of citation
classics published in knowledge management (KM) journals and to analyze
the key attributes and characteristics of the selected articles to
understand the development of the KM discipline.
Design/methodology/approach - This study identifies 100 citation
classics from seven KM-centric journals based on their citation impact
reported by Google Scholar and analyzes their attributes.
Findings - The KM discipline is at the pre-science stage because of the
influence of normative studies espousing KM practice. However, KM is
progressing toward normal science and academic maturity. While the
discipline does not exhibit the signs of the superstar effect, scholars
from the USA and UK have made the most significant impact on the
development of the KM school of thought. KM scholars should be more
engaged in international collaboration.
Practical implications - Practitioners played a key role in the
development of the KM discipline and thus there is an opportunity to
develop more scientific research approaches based on critical and
performative research agenda.
Originality/value - The study is novel and a must read for KM scholars
because it is the first to comprehensively analyze the ideas that are
the origins of the KM discipline.

Abstract:
Background: Methanol poisoning is on the rise and has been associated
with high morbidity and mortality; it has resulted in growing research
in the field of toxicology. The aim of this study was to reveal
underlying patterns in scientific outputs related to methanol poisoning
at the global level by evaluating different bibliometric indices.
Methods: We searched for publications that contained specific words
regarding methanol poisoning in Scopus database.
Results: A total of 912 articles, with 8,317 citations and with an
average of 9.1 citations per document, were retrieved on methanol
poisoning, and the bulk of the articles were published from the USA
(20.9%), followed by Spain (4.4%), Canada (4.3%), India (3.1%), and
France (3.0%). The articles were published belonging to 57 countries. No
data related to methanol poisoning were published from 155 (73.1%) out
of 212 countries. Twenty-one documents (2.3%) were published in Clinical
Toxicology, whereas 18 (2.0%) were published in The Lancet.
Conclusions: Scientific production related to methanol poisoning is
increasing. articles have been published in a wide range of journals
with a variety of subject areas, most notably clinical toxicology; and
the country with the greatest production was the USA.

Abstract:
Understanding emerging areas of a multidisciplinary research field is
crucial for researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders. For them a
knowledge structure based on longitudinal bibliographic data can be an
effective instrument. But with the vast amount of available online
information it is often hard to understand the knowledge structure for
data. In this paper, we present a novel approach for retrieving online
bibliographic data and propose a framework for exploring knowledge
structure. We also present several longitudinal analyses to interpret
and visualize the last 20 years of published obesity research data.

Abstract:
At present, scientometric assessment is an attribute of both the
practice of the internal management of scientific establishments and the
system of state and private financial support. Note that the attitude of
scientists to scientometrics and its use for determining the efficiency
of scientific activity varies, from seething resentment to
(significantly less often) willingness to offer proposals on correcting
scientometric instrumentation and the practice of its use. The author of
the article published below is an advocate of the latter strategy. With
account for the drawbacks of the existing indicators, he shows how we
can make them more adequate to the targets for the sake of which they
are developed.

Testing the Strength of the Normative Approach in Citation Theory Through Relational Bibliometrics: The Case of Italian Sociology

Abstract:
In scientometrics, citer behavior is traditionally investigated using
one of two main approaches. According to the normative point of view,
the behavior of scientists is regulated by norms that make the detection
of citation patterns useful for the interpretation of bibliometric
measures. According to the constructivist perspective, citer behavior is
influenced by other factors linked to the social and/or psychological
sphere that do not allow any statistical inferences that are useful for
the purposes of interpretation. An intermediate position supports
normative theories in describing citer behavior with respect to high
citation frequencies and constructivist theories with respect to low
citation counts. In this paper, this idea was tested in a case study of
the Italian sociology community. Italian sociology is characterized by
an unusual organization into three political or ideological camps, and
belonging to one camp can be considered a potentially strong
constructivist reason to cite. An all-author co-citation analysis was
performed to map the structure of the Italian sociology community and
look for evidence of three camps. We did not expect to find evidence of
this configuration in the co-citation map. The map, in fact, included
authors who obtained high citation counts that are supposedly produced
by a normative-oriented behavior. The results confirmed this hypothesis
and showed that the clusters seemed to be divided according to topic and
not by camp. Relevant scientific works were cited by the members of the
entire community regardless of their membership in any particular camp.
