Abstract:
The RC algorithm quantitatively evaluates the personal *impact factor*
of the scientific production of isolated researchers. The authors
propose an adaptation of RC to evaluate the personal *impact factor* of
research centers, hospitals and other research groups. Thus, these could
be classified according to the accredited impact of the results of their
scientific work between researchers of the same scientific area. This
could be useful for channelling budgets and grants for research. (C)

Abstract:
The main objective of this study was to explore scholarly communication
trends in the field of information literacy. A total of 1989 records
from Scopus bibliographic database, published from 2003 to 2012, were
analyzed. The Scopus database was preferred over the Web of Science as
it provided considerably more hits for the phrase 'information
literacy'. Other possible synonyms for the concept of information
literacy were ignored to minimize the retrieval of irrelevant documents.
MS Excel as well as specific Scopus analytical tools were used for data
analysis. Some areas covered in the data analysis included: annual
growth in information literacy publications, preferred journals for
publishing information literacy articles, most prolific authors, top
countries producing information literacy literature, and publication
distribution by subject. It was found that the number of information
literacy publications have increased steadily during the last ten years.
It was also revealed that a majority of information literacy publication
were written by authors from North America and the United Kingdom.

Abstract:
In the field of informetrics, agents are often represented by numeric
sequences of non necessarily conforming lengths. There are numerous
aggregation techniques of such sequences, e.g., the g-index, the
h-index, that may be used to compare the output of pairs of agents. In
this paper we address a question whether such impact indices may be used
to model experts' preferences accurately.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to analyze international collaboration and
growth of literature at the macro level using the two new indices,
Relative International Collaboration Rate (RICR) and Relative Growth
Index (RGI). To illustrate these indices, literature on the field of
tribology covered in SCOPUS during 1998 - 2012 is used. As tribology is
highly interdisciplinary in nature, which can be demonstrated by the
indices, both indices can be used for other subject disciplines.

Abstract:
To reveal the research performance and trends of the Czech Republic,
this study carried out a bibliometric analysis of Czech publications
during 1993 - 2012 covered in the Science Citation Index Expanded. A
total of 105,103 articles were analyzed in terms of categories,
publication sources (journals), contributing institutions, countries,
authors, collaboration, most cited articles, as well as research
emphases by the distribution of article title words, author keywords,
and KeyWords Plus. The main findings include: (a) the annual numbers of
Czech articles rose almost steadily during 1993-2012, with a sudden
increase in 1994 due to the split of Czechoslovakia in 1993; (b)
multidisciplinary materials science, physical chemistry, and
multidisciplinary chemistry were the most active research categories;
(c) Czech journals were more preferred to by Czech scientists compared
to the foreign journals, while the top three journals were Collection of
Czechoslovak Chemical Communications, Chemicke Listy, and Czechoslovak
Journal of Physics; (d) Except for the Academy of Sciences of the Czech
Republic, Charles University in Prague contributed the most articles and
had the highest growth rate among the top seven institutions; (e) the
most frequently collaborative countries were five of seven industrial
countries: Germany, United States, France, United Kingdom, and Italy, as
well as the other successor of Czechoslovakia, i.e. Slovakia; (f) The
Czech research related to mechanical properties, Raman spectroscopy,
phylogeny, and oxidative stress have come more popular in recent years.

Abstract:
The K-means algorithm is one of the most often used clustering
techniques. However, when it comes to discovering clusters in
informetric data sets that consist of non-increasingly ordered vectors
of not necessarily conforming lengths, such a method cannot be applied
directly. Hence, in this paper, we propose a K-means-like algorithm to
determine groups of producers that are similar not only with respect to
the quality of information resources they output, but also their
quantity.

Abstract:
We present a quality-based fuzzy linguistic recommender system for
researchers. We propose the use of some bibliometrics measures as the
way to quantify the quality of both items and users. The system takes
into account the measured quality as the main factor for the re-ranking
of the top-N recommendations list in order to point researchers to the
latest and the best papers in their domain. To prove the accuracy
improvement, we conduct a study involving different recommendation
approaches. The results obtained proved to be satisfactory within the
research departments who took part on the tests.

Abstract:
The RC algorithm quantitatively evaluates the personal impact factor of
the scientific production of isolated researchers. The authors propose
an adaptation of RC to evaluate the personal impact factor of research
centers, hospitals and other research groups. Thus, these could be
classified according to the accredited impact of the results of their
scientific work between researchers of the same scientific area. This
could be useful for channelling budgets and grants for research. (C)
