Abstract:
This contribution explores how work on Triple Helix (TH) indicators has
evolved. Over the past 15 years a body of literature has emerged that
brings together a variety of approaches to capture, map or measure the
dynamics of TH relationships. We apply bibliographic coupling and
co-citation in combination with content analysis to develop a better
understanding of this literature. We identify several clusters that can
be aggregated to two broad streams of work-one 'neo-evolutionary', the
other 'neo-institutional' in nature. We make this observation both for
bibliographic coupling and co-citation analyses which we take as
indication of an emerging differentiation of the field. Our content
analysis underlines this observation about the 'two faces' of the TH. We
conclude this paper with a discussion of future opportunities for
research. We see great potential in developing the application side of
TH indicators.

Abstract:
This paper describes the results of a multi-level network analysis of
web-citations among the 1,000 universities with the greatest presence on
the world wide web. Using data from January 2011, it describes the
web-citation network of the world's universities and ascertains the
antecedent factors that determine its structure. At the university
level, the network is composed of ten groups, and the most central
universities are mainly from the United States. The factors that predict
the structure of the network are, whether or not the universities are in
the same country, the language of instruction, the size and excellence
of the institution (university ranking and the number of Nobel Prizes
received), if they offer doctoral degrees, and the infrastructure of its
country. Physical distance was not a determinant of the network's
structure. At the nation-state level, international connections among a
nation's universities are composed of a single cluster with the United
States, United Kingdom and Germany at the center. The structure of the
international network may be predicted by the countries' overall
hyperlink connections, international co-authorships, student flows and
the number of Nobel Prizes won by its citizen.

Abstract:
A bibliometric analysis based on the Science Citation Index Expanded
(SCI-Expanded) from the Web of Science was carried out to provide
insights into research activities and tendencies of the global risk of
engineering nanomaterials (ENMs) from 1999 to 2012. The number of
publications per year has increased steadily since approximately 2006.
The USA produced 41.9% of all pertinent articles followed by China with
14.8% and UK with 9.1%. Environmental Science & Technology, Toxicology,
and puma! of Nanoparticle Research were the three most common journals
in this field. A synthesized analysis by co-citation and words from
author keywords provided the clues to discover the current research
emphases. The mainstream research related to risk of ENMs was
toxicological effects and ecological risk. Toxicity effect strongly
promoted the development of related research in the past 14 years.
Research on environmental behavior and ecological risk of ENMs is the
fast growing field. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:
This paper presents the relative percentile of diffusion (RPDiF) and
compares it with the results of the following indicators: synchronous
diffusion factor (DiF), synchronous relative diffusion factor (RDiF),
and the five years impact factor (5IF) scores -to assess the influence
of journals. The approach involves collection, analyses and comparison
of bibliometric data for42 Malaysian journals that have garnered
citations in the Web of Science (WoS) during 2006 to 2010. Findings show
that it is important to read the RDiF with the RPDiF because RPDiF shows
that journals with high RDiF and low RPDiF do not possess strong quality
profile like those with both high RDiF and RPDiF. The paper concludes
that a journal can be said to demonstrate high quality impact and
influence if it achieves a high DiF, RPDiF and 5IF. This study
contributes in providing an additional quality indicator to evaluate
journals not indexed by mainstream citation databases.

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION A bibliometric study was carried out to ascertain the
volume and impact of scientific literature published on
second-generation antipsychotic drugs (SGAs) in Singapore from 1997 to
2011.
METHODS A search of the EMBASE and MEDLINE databases was performed to
identify articles originating from Singapore that included the
descriptors 'atypic* antipsychotic*', 'second-generation
antipsychotic*', 'clozapine', 'risperidone', 'olanzapine',
'ziprasidone', 'quetiapine', 'sertindole', 'aripiprazole',
'paliperidone', 'amisulpride', 'zotepine', 'asenapine', 'iloperidone',
'lurasidone', 'perospirone' and 'blonanserin' in the article titles.
Certain bibliometric indicators of production and dispersion (e. g.
Price's Law on the increase of scientific literature, and Bradford's
Law) were applied, and the participation index of various countries was
calculated. The bibliometric data was also correlated with some social
and health data from Singapore, such as the total per capita expenditure
on health and gross domestic expenditure on research and development.
RESULTS From 1997 to 2011, a total of 51 articles on SGAs in Singapore
were published. Our results suggested non-fulfilment of Price's Law (r =
0.0648 after exponential adjustment vs. r = 0.2140 after linear
adjustment). The most widely studied drugs were clozapine (21 articles),
risperidone (16 articles) and olanzapine (8 articles). Division into
Bradford zones yielded a nucleus occupied by the Journal of Clinical
Psychopharmacology (6 articles) and the Singapore Medical Journal (4
articles). The analysed material was published in a total of 30
journals, with the majority from six journals. Four of these six
journals have an impact factor greater than 2.
CONCLUSION Publications on SGAs in Singapore are still too few to
confirm an exponential growth of scientific literature.

Abstract:
Based on three theorems for size-to-rank transformations, the shifted
power function is used to set up a theoretical framework unifying
informetric distributions. While the shifted power function with
time-type exponential cutoff supplies a unifying informetric framework,
the shifted power function with space-type exponential cutoff can be
linked to the Pareto and Weibull distributions. The exponent is the
crucial parameter in a power function, determining the most important
characteristics of the power-law distribution.

Abstract:
It has been proven that several features of scientific papers are
relevant to citation impact. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate
the role of these features and unravel which features have greater
influence on citation impact. A feature space is established to describe
four types of scientific papers' features: features of a paper itself
features of authors, features of published journal, and features of
citations. For a group of 676 articles published in 12 journals in the
subject category of Information Science & Library Science (IS&LS) in
2007, we analyze quantitatively the difference among high-, medium-, and
low-cited papers, and capture their influence on citation impact. The
results make it clear that among these four feature types, the quality
of a paper and the reputation of authors are the most and the least
significant factor affecting the citation impact respectively, and a
paper itself has greater influence than the published journal. The
findings lay the foundation for the citation impact prediction by using
the features of scientific papers.

Title:
A Model Based on *Cocitation* for Web Information Retrieval

Abstract:
According to the relationship between authority and cocitation in HITS,
we propose a new hyperlink weighting scheme to describe the strength of
the relevancy between any two webpages. Then we combine hyperlink weight
normalization and random surfing schemes as used in PageRank to justify
the new model. In the new model based on cocitation (MBCC), the pages
with stronger relevancy are assigned higher values, not just depending
on the outlinks. This model combines both features of HITS and PageRank.
Finally, we present the results of some numerical experiments, showing
that the MBCC ranking agrees with the HITS ranking, especially in top
10. Meanwhile, MBCC keeps the superiority of PageRank, that is,
existence and uniqueness of ranking vectors.

Abstract:
This study examines the implications of the predicted big data
revolution in social sciences for the research using the Triple Helix
(TH) model of innovation and knowledge creation in the context of
developing and transitional economies. While big data research promises
to transform the nature of social inquiry and improve the world economy
by increasing the productivity and competitiveness of companies and
enhancing the functioning of the public sector, it may also potentially
lead to a growing divide in research capabilities between developed and
developing economies. More specifically, given the uneven access to
digital data and scarcity of computational resources and talent,
developing countries are at disadvantage when it comes to employing
data-driven, computational methods for studying the TH relations between
universities, industries and governments. *Scientometric* analysis of
the TH literature conducted in this study reveals a growing disparity
between developed and developing countries in their use of innovative
computational research methods. As a potential remedy, the extension of
the TH model is proposed to include non-market actors as subjects of
study as well as potential providers of computational resources,
education and training.

Abstract:
This contribution explores how work on Triple Helix (TH) indicators has
evolved. Over the past 15 years a body of literature has emerged that
brings together a variety of approaches to capture, map or measure the
dynamics of TH relationships. We apply *bibliographic* coupling and
co-citation in combination with content analysis to develop a better
understanding of this literature. We identify several clusters that can
be aggregated to two broad streams of work-one 'neo-evolutionary', the
other 'neo-institutional' in nature. We make this observation both for
*bibliographic* coupling and co-citation analyses which we take as
indication of an emerging differentiation of the field. Our content
analysis underlines this observation about the 'two faces' of the TH. We
conclude this paper with a discussion of future opportunities for
research. We see great potential in developing the application side of
TH indicators.

Scale- Free Power- Laws as Interaction between Progress and Diffusion

Abstract:
While scale-free power-laws are frequently found in social and
technological systems, their authenticity, origin, and gained insights
are often questioned, and rightfully so. The article presents a newly
found rank-frequency power-law that aligns the top-500 supercomputers
according to their performance. Pursuing a cautious approach in a
systematic way, we check for authenticity, evaluate several potential
generative mechanisms, and ask the so what question. We evaluate and
finally reject the applicability of well-known potential generative
mechanisms such as preferential attachment, self-organized criticality,
optimization, and random observation. Instead, the microdata suggest
that an inverse relationship between exponential technological progress
and exponential technology diffusion through social networks results in
the identified fat-tail distribution. This newly identified generative
mechanism suggests that the supply and demand of technology (technology
push and demand pull) align in exponential synchronicity, providing
predictive insights into the evolution of highly uncertain technology
markets. (c) 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Complexity 19: 56-65, 2014

Abstract:
The aim of this work is to present the development of patent-research
through the years (1996-2011) from a bibliometrics and scientific
visualization approach. Our corpus consists of 1529 original research
and review articles obtained from an initial topic search on patents
retrieved from the Institute of Scientific Information's (ISI) Web of
Science (WoS) database. CiteSpace II software was used to represent the
knowledge domains of country, institution, author co-citation network,
journal co-citation network, document co-citation network, and networks
of keywords, related with patent-research in the field of information
science and management science. Results show that USA is the most
productive country in patent-research; Katholieke University Leuven,
University of Sussex, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Harvard
University are the most productive institutions. Cohen WM is the mostly
co-cited author, followed by Jaffe AB, Griliches Z, Hall BH and Narin F.
"Research policy" is the most cited journal for published articles on
patents research. The visualization of data with the CiteSpace II
software revealed intellectual bases and research fronts for the
patent-research development in the given time window.

Abstract:
This paper aims to map the research trend in the field of knowledge
management (KM) by presenting a systematic and analytical
*scientometrics* approach based on data from the Web of Science (WoS).
The method for science mapping includes the following steps: Defining
the domain; identifying keywords related to KM field and its subfields;
conducting searches and collecting the publication and citation data
from WoS; drawing the structure of scientific productions using
*scientometrics* tools; enriching the science maps by adding new
attributes; and analyzing the results. In this study, we provide a
visualization overview of the wide distribution of KM publications. The
analysis of clusters of the historiographical maps, based on Local
Citation Score (LCS) and Global Citation Score (GCS), indicated the most
frequent thematic trends. The co-word occurrence analysis for mapping KM
research topics shows that the structure of fundamental subject areas
within the field of KM has changed and expanded dynamically during
2004-2010. This study could be useful for researchers and subject
specialists as well as policy makers as they may view and study the
history of a discipline by drawing the structure of its scientific
productions, in order to do strategically plan and determine the
research priorities in the discipline.

Abstract:
This article has been inspired by the activity index and problems in its
proper understanding. It studies a basic relative contribution index
which is placed in the context of countries' publication contributions.
Two versions are proposed: one being an average of ratios (AoR) and the
other one a ratio of averages (RoA). A Lotkaian-*Zipfian* framework is
used to model the two versions of the proposed indicator. A remarkable
difference between the two approaches (RoA vs. AoR) is found when
determining the fraction of units (countries) that have a value larger
than one. This observation contributes to the understanding of the
differences between these two approaches.

Abstract:
Objectives To examine indexed health science journals to evaluate the
prevalence of Wikipedia citations, identify the journals that publish
articles with Wikipedia citations, and determine how Wikipedia is being
cited.
Design Bibliometric analysis.
Study selection Publications in the English language that included
citations to Wikipedia were retrieved using the online databases Scopus
and Web of Science.
Data sources To identify health science journals, results were refined
using Ulrich's database, selecting for citations from journals indexed
in Medline, PubMed, or Embase. Using Thomson Reuters Journal Citation
Reports, 2011 impact factors were collected for all journals included in
the search.
Data extraction Resulting citations were thematically coded, and
descriptive statistics were calculated.
Results 1433 full text articles from 1008 journals indexed in Medline,
PubMed, or Embase with 2049 Wikipedia citations were accessed. The
frequency of Wikipedia citations has increased over time; most citations
occurred after December 2010. More than half of the citations were coded
as definitions (n= 648; 31.6%) or descriptions (n= 482; 23.5%).
Citations were not limited to journals with a low or no *impact factor*;
the search found Wikipedia citations in many journals with high impact
factors.
Conclusions Many publications are citing information from a tertiary
source that can be edited by anyone, although permanent, evidence based
sources are available. We encourage journal editors and reviewers to use
caution when publishing articles that cite Wikipedia.

Abstract:
This paper presents the relative percentile of diffusion (RPDiF) and
compares it with the results of the following indicators: synchronous
diffusion factor (DiF), synchronous relative diffusion factor (RDiF),
and the five years *impact factor* (5IF) scores -to assess the influence
of journals.

Four of these six
journals have an *impact factor* greater than 2.
CONCLUSION Publications on SGAs in Singapore are still too few to
confirm an exponential growth of scientific literature.

Abstract:
This paper aims to map the research trend in the field of knowledge
management (KM) by presenting a systematic and analytical scientometrics
approach based on data from the Web of Science (WoS). The method for
science mapping includes the following steps: Defining the domain;
identifying keywords related to KM field and its subfields; conducting
searches and collecting the publication and citation data from WoS;
drawing the structure of scientific productions using scientometrics
tools; enriching the science maps by adding new attributes; and
analyzing the results. In this study, we provide a visualization
overview of the wide distribution of KM publications. The analysis of
clusters of the historiographical maps, based on Local Citation Score
(LCS) and Global Citation Score (GCS), indicated the most frequent
thematic trends. The co-word occurrence analysis for mapping KM research
topics shows that the structure of fundamental subject areas within the
field of KM has changed and expanded dynamically during 2004-2010. This
study could be useful for researchers and subject specialists as well as
policy makers as they may view and study the history of a discipline by
drawing the structure of its scientific productions, in order to do
strategically plan and determine the research priorities in the
discipline.
